Who We Are

// ABOUT US

We came up on dubbed tapes, pawn-shop guitars, and amps that smelled like burning dust. We never left. Thirty-five chambers to learn the craft, the thirty-sixth to give it away — that's the whole business model. We ran the numbers once. The numbers said stop.

We once owned a fuzz that only sounded right when it rained. We never fixed it — you don't fix weather. Some knowledge you leave alone. Besides, a fuzz pedal can't really break. It just becomes a distortion pedal. Sorry for the convenience.

Big love to Wu-Tang. They drew the blueprint — master the craft, then hand it to the people — and we've been tracing it with a soldering iron ever since. This whole site is a fan letter. The reviews are the handwriting.

Art isn't a contest. Nobody needs a rulebook to know when something's right, and nobody who made it owes you an explanation for how they got there. That's true for a painting. It's true for a fuzz pedal. We just write down what we heard.

Day job's a workbench, not a keyboard — we set up the guitars these pedals plug into, which is the only reason we know when a fuzz is lying about what it's doing to your tone. Built Fretsmith out of that: same rules as here, no guessing, no sponsor's thumb, just what's true on the bench. The pedal reviews are the moonlighting.
